Diono wins prestigious Red Dot Design Award with Monterey 5iST FixSafe™

News & Press
It’s official, the next generation of booster seat, Monterey® 5iST FixSafe™ has won another award! We caught up with our team to discuss what this means for Diono.

Launched in 2021 as the latest addition to Monterey® family, the original expandable booster seat, Monterey® 5iST FixSafe™ has stolen the hearts of parents, passengers, and judges of prestigious design awards across the world. Soon after its release, Monterey® 5 swept up the iF Design Award, a world-renowned award that recognizes products in multiple disciplines and has a fierce line-up of competitors from across the globe. Fast-forward to April 2022 and Monterey® 5 has done it again. This time, it’s the Red Dot Design award.

Red Dot is recognized worldwide as the gold standard of design excellence, with a jury of 50 international design experts carefully considering each entry before selecting the winning products in line with the motto “In search of good design and innovation”. The unique design and engineering of Monterey® 5 secured a winning place for innovation in product design for babies and children. As the celebrations began, we sat down with members of the Diono Team to find out what this achievement means to them.

Tim Maule – CEO

“Earning a Red Dot Award for the Monterey 5 is a real triumph for this booster seat. It’s a testament of the entire Diono team’s commitment to push boundaries in design and engineering so that families can celebrate the joy of the journey. Diono will always be experts at celebrating safe travel, but we do so with style, in ways that others dare not to imagine. We’re leaders of imagination because we want parents, caregivers, and passengers alike to feel proud that they’re travelling with Diono, and to do that we have to combine safety, style, comfort, and innovation. Monterey 5 does all of that, and more. The entire team are thrilled and grateful that Red Dot has recognized the design innovations that distinguish the Monterey 5.”

Sam – Director of Marketing & Product Development

“This award really is an honor. Red Dot has always recognized ground-breaking, original designs that challenge boundaries and seek new ways to solve every-day problems and deliver better experiences. When we laid out or plans to create portable booster seat safety for families that live life at a fast pace, we knew there would be obstacles, but we had no doubt at all that we would overcome anything in our path to achieve our goal. Monterey® 5 exceeded our expectations, and this award is further recognition of that. I am truly grateful that the hard work of our team has paid off, and I hope they are as proud of themselves as I am.”

Mike Gillett – Head of Engineering - Cars Seats & Strollers

“The Red Dot Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world, and it is a real honor for the Monterey 5 to be selected to receive this award. A goal of this project was to design a booster safety seat for modern, highly mobile families. We understood that family travel was changing, and the demands for portable safety were increasing. The team created an exceptional booster seat that is stylish, easily portable, and with innovative functionality. We are very proud of the accomplishments of the Monterey 5 team, and for being recognized by winning the Red Dot Design Award.”

Scott – Product Marketing Manager & Safety Advocate, CPST

“Winning the Red Dot Award is a great achievement for Diono and the Monterey 5. Not only is it an innovative booster seat full of convenient features, but the safety that it provides to booster-aged children is second to none. Height and width adjustability means it can fit a wider range of children and accommodate them longer as they continue to grow, providing a safe way to travel until they’re ready to transition to the adult seat belt. Enhanced side impact protection is another example of the safety built right in to the Monterey 5, taking it to the next level in overall protection for older children. It’s an honor to be selected for this prestigious award.”
